Let the process begin...

Today I made the final decision that it was time for Madelyn to potty train. After many weeks of her digging in her diaper and pulling out a surprise for me I have had enough. So today when she woke up we put on her Elmo panties and began the process. So far nothing has happened in the toilet but 3 spills on the floor and chair. She loves to sit on the potty but just won't go... She is now down for a nap and in 2 hours we continue on. I am looking for advice and lots of it. So anything will help thanks.....

My mom potty trained Gavin so I was lucky. She is the master potty trainer so how could I miss that opportunity? She did however tell me these things that I think help.

Have a toilet that you can move around to what ever room she is in. So if she has to go she doesn't have to go far.

Get one of those toilets that you pour out into the bigger toilet. That way when she pees she can see it and let her dump it into the toilet. I think it gives them the satisfaction.

Don't get mad if they have an accident. My mom says it just makes it harder on everyone.

Give her lots of liquids. Maybe something fun like Sprite so that she will drink alot and have lots of opportunities to go.

Lastly. Don't put pants on her just underware so that she has less to take off.

Good Luck!

Just know that you'll have a few tough days where you'll have to do a load of undies every day. Keep a stack of undies on hand. I wouldn't use Pull Ups. Pull Ups absorb so it's sort of like using a cheap diaper, just change underware and move on.

Congrats on the potty training... Isn't it great!? :) jk...
Maizyn was actually pretty easy. We ran out diapers one day and I was about to go get some when Clay suggested we just tell her she HAS to go on the toilet. We bought her a little potty chair that she never used. She preferred the toilet. Basically she was trained within a week. We still have the occasional accident, but it is SO nice not to have to change her diaper. My advice is to try to night train her as well. I know this is hard, but that's what we did with Maizyn. MY sisters daughter is 4 and still in pull-ups at night... I'm grateful I don't have to worry about that. Rewards and incentives can be fun too - like a sticker chart every time she goes, or even a mini marshmallow or something. Have fun! :)

Keep at it girl... you'll be so proud of her and yourself when she does have some success! After the first few times she actually goes on the potty she'll get the hang of it and it gets much easier after that. Just remember it's SOOOO much more work for you than it is for her.
Love you!

Colored marshmallows that she ONLY gets as a special treat if she goes on the potty.

I have a good story- Eve basically potty trained in one day and she was only 2 1\2, that's nights too!!! I felt it was time and I was prego and didn't want to mess with 2 in diapers so we told her that just like when we told her she needed to throw away all of her pacifiers and then she could pick out a toy at Toys R Us in return, she would be able to pick out something when she was done potty training, choosing something in moderation, what special thing she earned at Toys R Us. I had heard that it was a good process to go through from some specialists and it was incentive enough for her and boy did it work! Good luck and the key is stick with it.

My advice is that every child is different and so more likely than not Maddie will do things differently than all your friends kids. Merrick potty trained himself at 2 1/2 day time and night time yet Jack took seven months to finally give up his dirty little habits. He has kept his underwear clean for two weeks now and I feel like I've won the lottery! Just do what works for you.
